From Yonder-land to Wonderland and back
Down in the dark allies of a small African village sits a young teenage girl
She stares into the skies, and at the moon and stars; lost in thoughts
"What could be out there in the real world?" she asks herself
forgetting that her world is as real as she makes it
She has heard stories upon stories of the foreign land
she has big dreams of one day traveling out of her village, going abroad and experiencing "Life"
She sees herself driving fancy cars and wearing flashy clothes
Smiles and a great deal of joy feel her heart until she is brought back to reality by her mother's voice; yelling at her to do the dishes :-(
She goes ahead to do the dishes, still thinking of her WONDERLAND!!!
Grown to be a woman, the young African girl thinks she has arrived at wonderland when she finally sets feet in the foreign land of her dreams.
However, it only takes her a few months to realize that there's no place like home.
She has the car, the clothes, and the money
yet far away from mum and dad
far from uncles and aunties, and all the dramas of family
far away from the unconditional love of family and real friends
Alas she recognizes the efficacy of the old saying that goes-North, South, East and West, Home is the Best.
She feels stuck in a foriegn land
She dreams of home everyday,
growing to realize that home-her Yonder-land is of more Value than her seemingly Wonderland
