An Encomium for a Virtuous Woman

This is an encomium for a woman who has redefined what it means to be a mother

Your children rise up and call you blessed, your husband also, he praises you

“Many mothers have done virtuously, but you excel them all”

You have taught me and all your children what it means to be a mother

You have portrayed to us that mother is another word for love

You gave even when it was inconvenient for you often using phrases like

“Am I the first person to have children?” but you gave anyways

You have thought me as a young lady that being a mother does not have to be biological

That one does not need any special reason or occasion to love and give

You opened up your home and heart to all in need

You opened up your kitchen and even your wallet until you’ve given your very last

I’ve seen you give your last penny, and then come in to wonder about how the family will feed

Above all, you taught me what it really means to trust God through difficult situations

I have watched you live your life, and I can boldly say, “YOU ARE A BLESSING TO THIS WORLD.”

I am forever thankful to God that I and so many others can call you our mother
