world book day As bibliophiles around the world join UNESCO to celebrate love for the written word on April 23rd which is World Book Day, it is imperative that we take an intense appraisal of our nation with regards to our relationship with books. As a nation, we have been blessed with the gift of Democracy. I tag it a gift because, simply put, democracy signifies freedom. A democratic nation is ideally a nation with unlimited access to information; and information is found in books. However, the realities of our nation today speak of limited access to information caused mainly by a Wrong Mentality created by the perception of books as used for only boring and difficult assignments and exams. This perception creates a purpose mismatch and kills the drive of individual reading outside the confines of formal education.
